Ethan was a man who had everything he wanted. At 35, he had a steady job, a beautiful girlfriend named Rachel, and a future that seemed bright. Life was good. Until he met the old gypsy woman.
It was a chilly evening when Ethan crossed paths with her on a deserted street. She had wrinkled skin, eyes like dark voids, and a presence that made him uneasy. She approached him, hand outstretched, asking for money. Ethan, in a hurry and annoyed, refused her.
“Please, sir, just a little help,” she begged.
“No, I’m sorry. I can’t help you,” Ethan snapped, walking away.
Her voice followed him, low and menacing. “You will live till 36 years old.”
Ethan froze, turned to look at her, but she had vanished into the shadows. He shook off the encounter as a weird incident. But as the months passed, strange things began to happen.
First, he fell ill with a persistent fever that no doctor could diagnose. Then, Rachel left him, saying she couldn’t handle his strange behavior and bad luck. His work suffered, friends distanced themselves, and a dark cloud seemed to hang over him.
The night before his 36th birthday, Ethan lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. The gypsy’s words echoed in his mind. “You will live till 36 years old.” Panic set in. What if she was right? He had one day left.
Determined to make things right, he decided to seek out the gypsy woman. He wandered the streets, desperate and frantic. Finally, he found her in the same spot where they first met.
Desperate Plea for Life
“You,” he gasped, “I need to talk to you.”
She looked up, her eyes piercing his soul. “Ah, the young man with little kindness. What do you want?”
“Please, I’m begging you. I don’t want to die,” Ethan pleaded, his voice trembling.
The gypsy woman smiled, a cold, sinister smile. “Why should I help you? You showed me no mercy.”
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. Please, I’ll do anything,” he begged, falling to his knees.
She circled him, her presence growing more ominous. “Anything, you say?”
“Yes, anything,” Ethan cried.
“Life is precious, isn’t it?” she whispered. “As a matter of fact, you humans only understand its value when it’s slipping away.”
Ethan’s heart pounded. “Please, I’ll change. I’ll help others. Just let me live.”
The gypsy woman stopped in front of him, her eyes boring into his. “Very well. I will give you one chance. Tomorrow, on your birthday, you will wake up and live. But remember this moment, and do not squander your second chance.”
Ethan felt a rush of relief. “Thank you. Thank you so much.”
The Haunting Realization
The next morning, Ethan woke up, heart racing, sweat covering his body. He was alive. It was his birthday. The gypsy’s words echoed in his mind.
He spent the day making amends. He apologized to Rachel, reached out to friends, and even helped a stranger in need. That night, he lay in bed, grateful for his second chance.
As sleep overtook him, he slipped into a dream. He was back on the street, the gypsy woman before him. She whispered the same words. “You will live till 36 years old.” He woke up with a start, heart pounding. It was just a dream. Or was it?
The next day, as he walked to work, he saw her again. The same old gypsy woman, standing in the same spot. His blood ran cold.
“Good morning,” she said, her voice sending chills down his spine.
Ethan stared at her, unable to speak.
“Remember our deal?” she asked, smiling that cold smile.
He nodded, fear gripping his heart.
“Happy birthday,” she whispered, and walked away, disappearing into the crowd.
Ethan stood there, trembling. Was it all a dream? Or had he truly been given a second chance? He would never know. But one thing was certain: he would live every day as if it were his last, cherishing each moment, never taking life for granted again.
