I’ve hit rock bottom writing for Creepy Bonfire. Truly, I’m at the end of my rope. Each time I gather the strength to share one of my dark stories, I find myself anxiously tightening my grip, yearning for a sign of approval through likes. My stories, crafted with such care, struggle to garner even a modest number of likes and comments are as scarce as an armless ghost without hands.
As I watch, stories by others soar to dizzying heights of popularity, racking up accolades and admiration. I’ve ventured through every shadowy corner of my mind, exploring every genre and setting imaginable, all in the quest for recognition. It’s a relentless assault on my morale, leaving me feeling that I cannot handle that anymore.
From Handshake to Hands-on
In a moment of desperation, I sought out a writer whose story about a cursed typewriter had enchanted the masses. I followed the digital breadcrumbs to his house, convinced he would offer me his helping hand in writing. Yet, he was far from welcoming. He wouldn’t listen to me and kept saying I should go. He didn’t see how much I needed his help. When I realized he wouldn’t share his secrets, I was compelled to take a more… hands-on approach to uncover the essence of his talent.
Feeling brave after meeting him, I wrote a new story, trying to use what I learned from him. But, just like before, I only got a few likes. It looked like my big effort hadn’t worked out yet. Maybe I needed a new ” helping hand”.
EDIT: Thinking it over, I see I was just upset before. Quitting isn’t my style. This place is full of smart, creative people, and it’s wrong to quit over one bad time. There’s so much to learn here, and maybe it’s time to help out, or better yet, “take a hand,” to get what makes a story good. So, is anyone here offering their hand?
