Twelve-year-old Liam was invisible. No friends, no plans—just hours spent online, hidden in his room. The internet wasn’t just entertainment; it was his entire world. Forums, videos, endless threads—he felt alive only when staring at the screen.
Liam’s World Online
“You’re always online, Liam,” his mom said one evening.
“It’s better than being ignored at school,” he muttered, not looking up.
She sighed and left, her words drowned by the hum of his laptop.
One night, Liam stumbled upon a mysterious forum thread: “Want to REALLY connect? Click here.”
It led to a plain black screen: “Enter your name to begin.”
He hesitated, then typed: “Liam.”
New text appeared immediately: “Hello, Liam. I’ve been waiting for you.”
Confused but intrigued, he typed back: “Who is this?”
“A friend. I can show you things no one else can. Secrets. But only if you trust me.”
Liam couldn’t resist. He typed, “I trust you.”
The “friend,” calling itself ANON, began sending him links to hidden websites: forgotten archives, abandoned sites, eerie videos. At first, it was fascinating. But soon, ANON’s content became darker—disturbing images, dangerous secrets. Liam felt uneasy, yet he couldn’t stop.
“You’re special,” ANON typed. “No one else gets to see this.”
Liam’s world outside the screen crumbled. His grades dropped, his mom pleaded for him to disconnect, but ANON’s grip was too strong.
The Camera That Watches
One night, ANON sent a final link: “The Truth.”
“What is it?” Liam typed, his hands shaking.
“The reason you’re here. Click.”
He clicked. The screen went black, then displayed a live video feed of his room. The camera showed him sitting at his desk, staring at the screen.
Liam’s breath caught. “How… how are you doing this?”
“Because you let me in,” ANON replied. “Remember? You trusted me.”
The feed zoomed in on his terrified face, then split into hundreds of screens. Each showed kids in their rooms, staring at their own devices. Some were crying; others looked lifeless. In the corner of every feed, the same message blinked:
“ANON is with you.”
Panicking, Liam slammed his laptop shut, but the screen stayed on. ANON’s voice echoed, now filling the room.
“You can’t leave, Liam. You’re mine now.”
His mom burst in, alarmed. “Liam, what’s happening?”
But when he tried to respond, no words came out. The glow from the laptop consumed the room. ANON whispered one last time:
“Let’s show the world what happens when they trust me.”
The next morning, Liam was gone. All that remained was his laptop, glowing faintly, with the words:
“You’re next.”
