Classic films are getting new life. BayView Entertainment has teamed up with Film Masters to bring restored classics to modern streaming platforms. This partnership marks a major step forward in preserving cinema’s history.
BayView has a track record of success with classic restorations. Their 3-D release of Robot Monster (1953) became a standout hit last year. Peter Flynn’s documentary, Film is Dead. Long Live Film!, has also made waves, earning acclaim at film festivals and heading to Turner Classic Movies.
Now, they’re taking things further with Film Masters. Led by producer-archivist Phil Hopkins, Film Masters focuses on reviving forgotten gems. Hopkins explains,”We are archivists, committed to storing film elements for future generations and reviving films that have been sitting dormant for decades. By scanning in 2K and 4K, we give these lesser-known films the red-carpet treatment they deserve. We’re very excited to distribute our newly restored classics to modern streaming platforms,”
Upcoming Restorations
Several exciting titles are on the way:
- Salt of the Earth (1954): Celebrating 70 years, this politically charged film now boasts a stunning new restoration. It’s part of the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry.
- Ginger in the Morning (1974): A charming comedy featuring Sissy Spacek in an early role. This version comes from a pristine 4K scan.
- Door-to-Door Maniac (1961): Also known as Five Minutes to Live, this neo-noir stars Johnny Cash in his film debut. Fans will love the 4K upgrade, showcasing every gritty detail.
These classic films, and others, highlight the partnership’s dedication to cinema’s legacy.
Peter Castro, BayView’s VP of Acquisitions, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration. “With the success of Robot Monster and Film is Dead. Long Live Film!, we’ve heard the voices of our customers who share our love for bringing back classics in the best possible light,” he says. “Now, partnering with Film Masters enables us all to continue to share in cinema’s rich history.”
Film Masters doesn’t stop at digital releases. The group also donates original film elements to preservation institutions. Their goal is clear: save cinema history for future generations.
